Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour for extra fluffiness)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (or instant yeast)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F, warm but not hot)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- ½ teaspoon salt
Strawberry Cinnamon Filling
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped (or thawed frozen strawberries)
- ½ cup strawberry jam
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken the filling)
Glaze
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk (or more for desired consistency)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Make the Strawberry Filling
- In a saucepan, combine chopped strawberries, strawberry jam, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened. Let it cool.
Step 3: Roll Out & Fill
- Roll out the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the cooled strawberry filling evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border.
- Roll the dough into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces.
Step 4: Second Rise & Bake
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 5: Make the Glaze & Serve
- While the rolls bake, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve immediately!
Notes
- Make-Ahead: Prepare the dough and refrigerate overnight for a stress-free morning bake.
- Freezing: You can freeze unbaked rolls and thaw overnight before baking for fresh, homemade cinnamon rolls anytime.
- Dairy-Free Option: Substitute coconut oil for butter, almond or oat milk for dairy milk, and coconut cream for glaze for a dairy-free version.
- Extra Gooey Rolls: Pour warm heavy cream over the rolls before baking to keep them ultra-soft and moist.
- Serving Suggestion: Pair with cinnamon coffee or a light herbal tea for the perfect combination!
